Introducing... Thompson Springs Urban Farm

For the past five years I've been dabbling at home gardening. This year (2015) Renee and I will launch a two year strategy to starting our own farm (an urban farm that is).

I'll look forward to introducing you to the farm. This first year is a testing year. This year I'll put to test many methods of gardening I've been experimenting with over the years to determine the most effective and efficient way to farm on a city lot and in a high desert region.

You are welcome to come by anytime and offer suggestions, thoughts or musings; or come by the urban farm an help pick weeds.

For now, enjoy looking over some of the archived posts from the past.

Name Explanation:

  • Thompson: self explanatory
  • Springs: in farming in an urban setting there are a few things to consider - water and space
to water efficiently on city water is not very practical. I've checked, and our home no longer has irrigation water shares so I have turned to two other ways to water the urban/desert farm. I'm collecting rain water off our garage and I'm experimenting with ollas (I'll explain on a later post). Springs will refer to the ollas filled with rain water
  • Urban: We currently live on two city lots in old towne Twin Falls, Idaho. Idaho is not know for being urban and Twin Falls, is no urban metropolis, but we decided it sounded better than desert.
  • Farm: We enjoy the value of home grown veggies and fruit so much that we decided to start a farm. If city code would allow I would attempt a few livestock, but the neighbors will be glad that I can only have chickens.
